The Round Table of international shipping industry associations has released an updated version of ‘Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for Protection Against Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea Region.’ The Guidelines have been jointly developed by BIMCO, ICS, INTERTANKO and INTERCARGO. more

With piracy making an increasingly terrifying impact off West Africa, offshore shipping is facing a threat which may mean the increased use of armed guards on ships.  This is a really serious issue, and as such we are pleased to support some academic work on the implications of going armed. Analysts believe that offshore vessels operating along the coast of east Africa are increasingly under risk of attack by pirates. They are believed to be the latest targets for pirates, as offshore activities in the region increase with new east Africa oil and gas discoveries driving an offshore boom.
