Two Maersk Line Ltd. ships have been honoured with Mariners’ Plaques for performing rescues at sea. The awards to the officers and crews of the containership, Maersk Utah, and the oceanographic survey vessel, USNS Bowditch, were presented at the Admiral of the Ocean Seas (AOTOS) award dinner in New York. AOTOS is the maritime industry’s highest award and is the main fundraiser for United Seamen’s Service (USS) which operates seafarer welfare centers in ports around the world. The International Dynamic Positioning Operators Association (IDPOA) is delighted to announce the winners of the 2011 International Dynamic Positioning Excellence Awards.
The awards stand testimony to the skill, dedication, effort and commitment of people who strive to be the best and who help others become better too. IDPOA is about the DPOs, lecturers, leaders and mentors…these are the people driving DP excellence and these awards are for them.
Captain Ian Smith made the announcement as part of the first Asian DP Conference in Singapore.
The winners are as follows:
DP Operator of the Year – Malcolm Benson – This award celebrates the work of an individual DP Operator who has demonstrated outstanding passion, dedication and commitment to their role and profession..
DP Lecturer of the Year – Matt Barney of AMC Search, Australia – Presented to the individual who has shown outstanding passion, knowledge, engagement and support in their teaching.
DP Mentor of the Year – Charlie Stuart – Presented to an individual within the DP community who has shown exceptional dedication, support, engagement and vision in a Training/Mentoring role.
Services to DP Award – Bill Milne. This is a special award presented to the individual that has, over a sustained period, shown continuing drive, commitment and passion to the DP industry and is a true ambassador for Dynamic Positioning.
DP Training Centre of the Year – AMC Search – Awarded to a training centre, in recognition of excellent facilities, equipment, staff and student support. This is an incredibly hard fought category – where trainees who have their careers boosted look to recognise the place which has made it all possible.
DP Employer of the Year – EMAS Offshore – This award recognises the shipowner/operator which knows the value of people. A company which invests, not simply in ships and hardware but in supporting and developing its people.
DP Manufacturer of the Year – Kongsberg. This award recognises the equipment manufacturer who has demonstrated excellence in innovation, intuition, quality, control and service.
DP Vessel of the Year – DP2 vessel, “OSV RELUME”. This award recognises the vessel which has worked hard, stood up to the rigours of its tasks, operations and duties and which has come out having performed impeccably.
